California Changes Workman's Comp
Changes in workman's compensation in Califoria got this Schwarzenegger supporter all excited.
It took almost a year to realize the benefits of Workman's Compensation reform in California, but Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's promise to fix the system to make the Golden State more friendly to business seems to be paying off, now:
California business owners saw the average annual premium for workers' compensation insurance drop between 13.9 percent and 16.6 percent in the last six months, according to records from the state Department of Insurance.
These would be the first double-digit percentage rate cuts since deregulation in 1995, savings that arose out of legislative overhauls the last two sessions.
"Rates are coming down. Right now, it appears medical cost inflation has been impacted by the reforms. Medical costs were one of the primary drivers pushing rates up," said Jack Hannan, a spokesman for the Workers' Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau of California, an industry research group.
That news is, in a word, 'fantastic'!

I don't mean to be degrading, and will do my best to prove this. But you're not an injured worker (as am I). This is clear. 26 months ago, I was an employeed computer programmer of 25 years. No lazy man here - 60 to 80 hours a week. Yes; really. And I had health insurance to offset the HUGE costs that I face with a large number of medical conditions (juvenile diabetes; hypertension; chronic broncitus; etc.). I could have lived my life being cared for (at your expense), but chose to be a man instead. When I finally developed bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome, my health insurance was taken away for no other reason than to punish me for filing a claim, and to save my boss a few bucks in the process. In 26 months, California's Workman's Comp has paid me nearly 60 thousand dollars, yet not one thing has been done to treat my CTS; they put me on hypertension meds, then refused to pay for a refill (net cost: in the ballpark of $20), which sent my blood pressures to 216/93 and the likes! Three emergency room visits (which the state will pay as well - you think I'm paying for that? Would you?). And the DMV decided that I was no longer healthy enough to drive (might put you wealthy, healthy people at risk), so they revoked my license and now I walk everywhere in this damned desert, so you can drive around in comfort & SAFETY. Tell me again how a state with no one willing to take the chance of working (knowing that if they push themselves to do better & become injured during the process, that they too will be tossed away like so much used tissue paper) is 'improved'. I don't get it (because I'm on the raw end). And I'll never put another DIME into such a corrupt system. Yes; America (and CAlifornia) can foot the rest of my expenses for the rest of my life. I'll never work a day again.
